Trey

Trey

Nedra's husband, Trey - again. This is the shot that is part of the natural light portrait project. I wanted to use this room for the really deep purple walls. I opened up the shutters on the window (to the camera right) and got Trey to stand fairly close to it, so the light would fall across his face. The wall was further back in the shade so went even darker. Again I liked the complimentary colours of the purple and orange. I composed this one with the Longhorns logo in it, which I find gives interesting repetition. The shape repeats in the logo, the shape of the shirt collar/buttons and also his eyes & nose are at a similar angle, so the T shape repeating through the frame at different scales ties the elements together.

I like that the logo is included. It tells us something about Trey.

I learn so much from you, Gordon. I like how you think about your images and how you inspire me to do the same. The portrait is wonderful. To emphasize the color contrasts, I suppose the purple could be made a bit more purplish, lighter or something. The reason I say this is that at first glance, it looked black or dark gray (might be this monitor). The light came out really sweet.

I also like the logo on his shirt. Definitely a Texan. The color contrast is great. I also like how your comp is off to the left.

Great portrait. Your attention to detail is amazing and it obviously pays.

At first glance I didn't much care for the angle. After spending some time with the image, the more it appealed to me. I would have liked to see more of the purple in the background but it's my favorite color so anytime you can add purple successfully, I'm all for it! As it is, There is a nice purple halo adding a nice contrast to the mans face. Another great learning experience for me.
